WAYNE – Updated COVID-19 totals were provided for counties within the Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department while Wayne State College officials began to release their updated reports which begin at the new semester.
Officials with NNPHD released their most recent report from the weekend through Monday, January 18 where there were 11 new COVID-19 positives.
Of the 3,317 total positives, 2,941 have since recovered and there have been over 22,000 total cumulative negatives and nearly 26,000 total tests for the NNPHD Health District.
Monday’s report also included new positives since last report/total positives/total number recovered for each county in the health district. Cedar (3/775/682); Dixon (3/576/502); Thurston (4/990/852) and Wayne (1/976/905).

Over the last seven days, more than 29,500 vaccine doses were administered in Nebraska. As of Sunday, 106,203 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been given to those in Phase 1 priority groups, according to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Phase 1A includes frontline health care workers and residents and staff of long-term care facilities as vaccinations continue.
First doses have been given to more than 75 percent of Nebraska’s 90,000 health care workers so far, with more than 15,000 receiving a second dose.
Nebraska is scheduled to receive 11,700 Pfizer and 11,800 Moderna first doses this week, and 11,200 Moderna second doses. Phase 1B is projected to begin at the start of February for most areas of the state as local health departments are progressing at different speeds for vaccination.
Following a near two-month break from reporting COVID-19 cases at Wayne State College, the weekly update returned on Friday, January 15 after the spring semester completed its first week with the updated numbers being reported based off cases since Monday, January 11.
As of last Friday, there were four new positives with one individual returning to campus and three active positive cases. The Fall 2020 update ended on November 16 with 266 positive cases since the beginning of the school year in August with 249 returning to campus and 17 active positives going into the break.
The numbers provide a snapshot of the total number of positive cases for employees and students, the number of people who have returned to campus and the number of active positive cases.
